Getting your garden winter ready

Getting your garden winter ready

It may be colder, but getting out in nature will still help you stay motivated, energetic, and ready for the day! This winter, get your list ready and get your gardening essentials done.

Prune your plants, especially Roses before autumn. Remove dead or degrading leaves and stems. Pruning well in winter will help your plants thrive in summer. Remove any signs stems or leaves that look diseased, getting you plants and garden ready for a fantastic spring and summer.

Fruit bushes and trees are ready to go into the soil. October to March are the best times to get your garden renewed, and you can still start planting for the spring Harvest. Rhubarb, hardy annuals for early spring blooms, bare-root trees and shrubs, spring bulbs, and overwintering vegetables are all good choices. Specific options include broad beans, beetroot, carrots, spinach, spring onions, kale, and certain herbs. Additionally, this period is ideal for planting garlic, onions, and shallots . Remember to prune any that are already planted!

Protect plats that need a bit more TLC from the harsher winter months.

Have compost ready to turn? Don't wait, and be careful of any animals making use of the comfy habitat you created.
